With the year fading fast, it’s time to take a quick look back at the 2011 edition of Know Thy Health – our third full year of blogging.

First, a snapshot, via the first sentence from the first post of each month:

  • January: Marie Flowers tells her story of mercury poisoning in powerful testimony at last month’s FDA dental amalgam hearings….
  • February: Recently, the US Department of Health and Human Services recommended lowering the “recommended” amount of fluoride in public water sources due to rising rates of dental fluorosis, and the Environmental Protection Agency released a research review showing an increased risk of bone problems due to long-term ingestion of high levels of fluoride.
  • March: When you enter someone’s home or office, part of you automatically notes how it feels.
  • April: Ever wonder why people snore?
  • May: A very patriotic British plumber has had Prince William and Kate Middleton tattooed on his front teeth.
  • June: Recently, the Pew Charitable Trusts released their latest report card on children’s dental health Maryland came out on top, meeting seven of Pew’s eight benchmarks, followed by Alaska, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota and South Carolina, which each met six.
  • July: Trainwreckery from the latest episode of Toddlers and Tiaras….
  • August: Here in the US, there are more than 350 different kinds of toothpaste to choose from, many of them so-called “whitening” toothpastes, containing baking soda, peroxide or some combination of both.
  • September: The August 2011 issue of Biosis, our quarterly newsletter, is now online.
  • October: From last October, Dr. Christina Grant, offers her take on the annual pinkwashing extravaganza….
  • November: Fruit juice is tasty stuff – but did you know that many juices contain more sugar than soda?
  • December: Thus spake “Dr. Mark Foster” – “a Well known Authority on Different Personal Hygiene and Dental Care Issues”….

Note: For months that began with curated content – e.g., “News of Note” or stand-alone video – we’ve taken the sentence from the second post instead.

Total visits this year were up more than 50%. And what were people looking at?
